In our walk with Christ, there will be moments when our hearts feel on fire—when worship is easy, prayer flows effortlessly, and we feel God’s presence in everything. But what happens when the feelings fade? When the spiritual high is gone and we’re left with dry routines, unanswered prayers, or a storm we didn’t see coming?
This is where obedience steps in.
Obedience isn’t about how we feel. It’s about who we trust. It's saying “yes” to God when we don’t understand, when the path is unclear, and when our emotions scream otherwise. In a culture that teaches us to “follow our hearts,” God calls us to follow His Word. And that choice—over and over again—is what builds unshakable faith.
Think of Noah. He built an ark with no rain in sight. Think of Abraham, who left everything familiar because God simply said, “Go.” These weren’t emotionally-driven decisions; they were acts of obedience. And through that obedience, their faith deepened, and their purpose was fulfilled.
Jesus Himself modeled this in the Garden of Gethsemane. He was in anguish—emotionally overwhelmed to the point of sweating blood. And yet He prayed, “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). That is the ultimate example of obedience over emotion.
So how do we live this out?
We read the Word, even when it doesn’t “speak to us.”
We pray, even when heaven seems silent.
We worship, even when we’re weary.
We forgive, even when it hurts.
We stay the course, even when it’s inconvenient.
Spiritual maturity isn’t proven in the moments we feel God most—it’s proven in the moments we obey Him most.
When emotions are low and motivation is missing, remember: obedience is love in action. It’s the daily choice to walk in faith, trusting that feelings will follow, but God is always faithful—even when we don’t feel it.
Let’s choose obedience. Let’s live anchored in trust. And let’s continue our faith walk not by sight, not by emotion—but by the unshakable truth of God’s Word.
